FIRST VIDEO SHOOT//

Last Sunday I shot more footage for my moving image piece. After mocking up a potential piece with the original footage, I decided it was too slow and didn’t have the desired outcome I wanted. This involved changing things quite a bit, as due to injury, the original rider could ride and do the things I wanted in the film, so I had to contact my other friend who rides. This would provide more problems as although he isn't injured and can perform the tricks I want involved, There were limited days in which we could film due to College, both having part time jobs and other commitments. One of which was a Sunday, which is when we shot our first section of footage. This provided no problems for the first section as it all took place inside his house, but for the second section I wanted to film outdoors and at the skate park, but filming on a Sunday wouldn’t be possible due to over crowded skate parks. This wouldn’t be a problem usually, but I believe it would detract form the atmosphere of the video.

Like I said the first shoot took place last Sunday, I decided to not schedule a filming slot on any particular day, as I had to be flexible to fit in with the rider, and I also didn't want it to disrupted my graphic work.

This shoot went really well, I was concentrating on gathering footage from inside his house, which worked perfectly due to the poor weather. I wanted to capture the usual start to a day before you go riding. This involves, eating, drinking, sorting your bike out, checking the weather, and seeing who is riding etc. I captured a lot of footage, but all with the intention of cutting down into small fast paced edits that would relate to the chosen song. By capturing a lot more footage than I needed, it would make the editing process a lot easier as it would give me more flexibility in case I changed my mind.

I shot all the opening sequence with a 50mm lens. The allowed me to create a shallow depth of field due to the 1.8F aperture capability. I also used manual focus, as I wanted to mess around with different focus effects within different clips. I shot all my footage on 1080p for maximum quality of the final product.

I basically just followed him around his house, filming everything he did, which amounted to about 15 minutes of footage. After analysing footage at his house, I decided I had sufficient clips to create the opening sequence. We arranged the date for the next shoot that will take place a week on Tuesday where I will shoot some outside footage. Weather dependant of course, but Tuesday is a better day, as the midweek aspect provides us with empty skate parks and quietter roads, which make filming easier, safer, and allows us more opportunity to get the shot right.
